Answering sizing questions on Shopify without a bigger team

Use Cases

Size charts are everywhere, and sizing questions still arrive every day. That's because a chart answers a measurement, and shoppers ask about themselves: "I'm 5'6" and usually wear a medium in other brands, which size is right?" The chart is correct and still doesn't answer the question.

For stores selling apparel, shoes, jewelry or anything with a fit, sizing is often the single most common pre-purchase question. It's also one of the most important, because a wrong size means a return.

Add fit notes, not just measurements

Next to the size selector, add one or two sentences about how the product fits: "Runs small, size up if you're between sizes" or "Relaxed fit, most customers take their usual size." This is the answer most shoppers are looking for, and it's usually knowledge your team already has from returns and exchanges.

Answer the comparison question

Many sizing questions are comparisons: with another brand, with another product in your own range, or with the shopper's last order. If you know how your sizing compares to well-known reference points, say so on the page. If one of your products fits differently from the rest of your range, say that too.

Use your returns data

Your return reasons already tell you which products cause sizing doubt. If one product has many "too small" returns, its page needs a clearer note. Fixing the page reduces both the questions and the returns.

Make the exchange policy visible

A shopper who isn't sure about size is more likely to buy if they know an exchange is easy. Put a short line about exchanges near the size selector rather than only on the returns page.

Answer the rest in chat, from your own guide

Some shoppers will still want to ask, especially when they're between sizes or buying a gift. A chat agent can answer these if it's trained on your size guide, fit notes and exchange policy. Starlix is trained on your store's products, policies and docs and answers sizing questions from your own guide 24/7. When a question needs a person, such as a special request or an unusual fit, it hands the chat to your team with the full conversation.

The key is that the agent answers from your guide, not from general sizing advice, so the answer matches what your team would say.

A quick test

Pick your best-selling sized product and ask yourself the three most common sizing questions you get about it. Can a shopper find each answer on the product page without scrolling to the bottom? If not, start there. Then try a free test version of Starlix trained on your site and ask it the same questions. The free plan needs no card.
